Ithacappella, also known as the Ithaca College Men’s Chorus, was founded in 1996 by four music students with a love for singing and a passion for performing. Since its inception, Ithacappella has grown from its choral roots to become one of the premier all male collegiate a cappella groups in the world, singing everything from traditional barbershop tunes to current radio hits.
Recently the group has received several awards and accolades including being named best male ensemble in the 2008 International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella. In the past, Ithacappella was also recently honored to share the stage with Grammy-nominated rock group, Incubus to perform its hit song, “Dig” for thousands of fans. With appearances on American Idol, CNN, The Price Is Right, and PerezHilton.com, the group continues to grow and evolve as contemporary a cappella breaks into the mold of mainstream music.
More recently, the group released their sixth studio album, Off The Hook, featuring songs like Owl City’s Fireflies, Lady Gaga’s Telephone, and When Love Takes Over by Kelly Rowland. Having been nominated for numerous awards, including Best Collegiate All Male Album, Best Male Soloist, and Song of the Year in the 2011 Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards (CARAs), the album has been widely recognized as one of the best all-male albums produced in 2011.
Additionally, Ithacappella’s collaboration with IC’s very own Premium Blend, Firework, has raised over $3,000 for the Trevor Project to date. This year, the group released their cover of Lady Gaga’s Born This Way along with Premium Blend, IC Voicestream, and winner’s of NBC’s The Sing Off, Pentatonix. This very special collaboration brought together these four groups to record and perform Lady Gaga’s anthem to benefit the Born This Way Foundation and the Alli Forney Center in New York City. Both of these singles can be found on iTunes.
In addition to exciting main stage concerts, the group also enjoys bringing its talent to schools in the form of interactive singing workshops designed to educate and inspire musicians of all ages. The group has performed in a number of different venues and continues to reach out and take advantage of exciting performance opportunities. Though the sound of the group has evolved over the years, one thing remains constant: its dedication to putting on high energy, fun shows for the entire family.
